So, who are we and why are we selling Indian bedspreads?
The Bombay Bedspread Company commenced trading in August 2005 by a husband and wife team from Staines, Middlesex. Raj, originally from Bombay, and Janet from Lancashire, decided to start the business when their presents of Indian bedspreads to family and friends were met with so much enthusiasm and requests for more.
Raj and Janet are committed to bringing incredibly beautiful hand crafted items from the east to the west and in so doing support the traditional crafts and the artisans of India. Their range of merchandise spans many of the styles found throughout India, including prints, appliqué, and embroidery on cottons, and soft pashmina style stoles and bedspreads in wool. The Bombay Bedspread Company is a Fair Trade business, sourcing merchandise ethically from NGOs, small family run businesses, and weavers’ cooperatives.
They respect the environment, supporting sound environmental policies for the manufacture of their merchandise.
Our Aims
To support the artisans of India via an Fair Trade structure.
Our aim is to build relationships and source products directly with Fair Trade producer groups, NGO\'s and small scale producers of textiles and with the villagers so that we can incorporate an Fair Trade policy for the artisans wherever possible.
To Respect the Environment
As we build relationships directly with producers we shall endeavour to encourage the most environmentally friendly production methods and materials are used so that a respect for the environment, as well as the artisan, is maintained or implemented.

Our items have all been hand picked from across India, from the cooperatives of the north and the retailers, NGOs and women\'s groups of Rajasthan, Kutch, all selected for their craftsmanship, style and quality.

About Fair Trade.
The Fair Trade movement aims to alleviate poverty in the developing ‘southern’ areas of world, such as Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Building positive trading relationships with poorer disadvantaged farmers Fair Trade companies ensure the producers receive a fair price for their goods, ongoing confirmed orders and access to the rich markets of the developed countries in the ‘north’.
The Fair Trade movement is also campaigning to change the unfair international trade rules that currently favour rich countries rather than poor. In this way they also provide a contribution to sustainable development.
Fair Trade is now a strong force in Europe. Consumers are increasingly aware of these trade issues and they want the option and power to purchase positively. They need to know the history of the goods they buy, where it has been produced and in what conditions.
