Our Products
Our aim is to support the craftsmanship that is still abundant throughout India, and to build relationships directly with villagers and artisans so that we can trade positively and fairly. We work with co-operatives, self help groups and Fair Trade groups wherever possible. We also aim to supply products that have sound environmental processes in place.

Here are just a few of the people we work with:

In the desert areas of rural Gujarat, women from 150 villages have come together to form a self sustaining producer group that provides mutual support across these villages. Whilst being many miles apart this group works cohesively to encourage and enhance the traditional crafts of rural women and provides the organisation that allows their beautiful embroidery to be brought to the global market. See our gorgeous luxury cushion covers, embroidery shoulder bags and pouches.

In the foothills of the Himalayas in the state of Himachal Pradesh is a weavers’ cooperative that strives to maintain its traditional weaving techniques and traditions. The work is complex, intricate and time consuming and just one bedspread can take a team of weavers 10 days to complete. Our Jamawar bedspreads are made on handlooms, as are our stoles, and with the softest finest wool. With a respect for the environment in mind most of the Jamawar items are made using vegetable dyes only.
Our Batik and Dhabu bedspreads come from a government backed initiative that supports traditional crafts and brings these crafts to a global market to encourage small Indian businesses to flourish.

Our woollen embroidery cushion covers are from a government backed Cottage Industry scheme, ensuring a fair price and a steady income for their workers as well as promoting traditional crafts and styles.

By supporting artisans who have pride in their crafts, by wanting quality over quantity, these artisans are able to earn an income and in turn the local economy is boosted which, in turn, negates the need for people to leave their traditional crafts, or their villages.

What we as consumers buy, and where we buy it from, has a very real impact on the producers around the world. We should not underestimate consumer buying power as we the consumers become more aware of where our goods are made and in what conditions.

We have sought to bring together a selection of bedspreads, cushion covers and paintings that reflect the influences that India offers, from the deserts and jungles to the urban cities and remote villages, the backwaters, rivers and rice fields, to the mountains and hill stations. All of these influences are woven into the fabrics of India, and the quality is sensational.

We hope that you will appreciate owning one, or more, of our very special items.

Fabric: The majority of our bedspreads are cotton based, and as many of these are made using a handloom there may be slight irregularities within the weave. This is not a fault but is intrinsic to this style of weaving and as such should be considered part of the richness of the product and a sign of a hand made item.
We also have a range of soft woollen bedspreads and stoles.

Care Instructions: As our bedspreads are predominantly hand made we suggest treating as delicates unless otherwise stated. For the Luxury category Jaipur mirror work we suggest dry clean only. As we encourage the use of vegetable dyes in fabrics, for environmental reasons, we suggest that you keep bedspreads out of direct sunlight. The use of vegetable colouring will mean the fabric may fade if in sunlight.

Paintings The paintings we stock have been sourced from the Cottage Industry Scheme which is run by the Indian government, ensuring a fair price is paid to the artists.
